Background History
The Company was committed to building a wind farm that, where possible, made use of existing or excess capacity within the local lines and roading networks.
This development provides economic benefit to the local community and assists the efficiency of electricity generation and distribution by providing appropriate levels of generation close to where it is needed.
Since the Company's incorporation in 2004, some major milestones have been accomplished:
- May 2005 - the Te Rere Hau wind farm was consented
- December 2005 - the Company raised over $4 million from its IPO onto the NZAX
- September 2006 - the Prime Minister Rt Honorable Helen Clark officially opened Stage 1 of Te Rere Hau wind farm (with the first five turbines installed)
- December 2006 - the confirmation of the Te Rere Hau Joint Venture with our partners NPBB Pty Limited (NP Power and Babcock and Brown WindPower)
- June 2007 - a further $75 million secured in our second capital raising where we welcomed Vector Limited as a 19.99% cornerstone shareholder and the Company migrated on to the NZSX
- 2007-2008 - Stage 2 (28 turbines) construction work at Te Rere Hau
- December 2008 - NZ Windfarms buys NPBB's 50% share of Te Rere Hau wind farm
- May 2009 - Stage 2 complete, construction of Stage 3 (32 turbines) commences
- 29 May 2009 - Resource Consent lodged for the Te Rere Hau Eastern Extension for up to 56 additional turbine locations
- Stage 4 (32 turbines) have been ordered
- 5 October 2009 - Resource Consent hearing for the Te Rere Hau Eastern Extension underway
- November 2009 - all Stage 2 and Stage 3 turbines fully commissioned, 65 turbines now operational and producing electricity into the National Grid
- 4 February 2010 - The Hearing Commissioners have granted land use consent for the 56 additional turbines applied for
- March 2010 - clear consent from the Tararua District Council to locate the 32 Batch 4 turbines in the Eastern Extension area
- 5 May 2010 - the company raised NZ$31.4 million through an 8 for 3 pro-rata renounceable Rights Issue
- Stage 4 turbine installation on the Eastern Extension commenced
- January 2011 - commissioning of turbines commenced
- 1 July 2011 - the 97th and last WF500 turbine purchased for the Te Rere Hau wind farm passed its final commissioning test and completes the Te Rere Hau project
